History of Atlas School

During the summer of 2001, what had been a private tutoring for a couple of middle school boys became the beginnings of Atlas School. Twelve students made up the first class of Atlas School which met in the auditorium of the historic Nuart Theater in downtown Moscow. It consisted of boys ranging in age from eight to thirteen, and it was taught in the style of a single room schoolhouse. Classes met Monday through Friday in the mornings, and three teachers split the tasks of teaching History, Literature, Bible, Art, Latin, Math, and Science.

In 2003, Atlas School added several students and began meeting in two classrooms next door to the Nuart Theater. Atlas students were divided into two classes: the Preparatory class and the Form class. Two full-time teachers taught all the subjects with the additions of a daily Matins service, Hebrew, and a weekly feast.

In 2005, Atlas students were divided into three classes: the Preparatory class, the Grammar class (First Form), and the Advanced Grammar class (Second Form). In addition to one full-time headmaster, Atlas hired part-time teachers to teach a number of specific subjects.

In the Spring of 2006, Atlas moved to the farm house where it now meets. The school house significantly increases the amount of classroom space as well as provides the boys with plenty of room to run and explore outside. We are very grateful for how God has blessed us.
