Incarnational Education

Worship is the foundation of all studies at Atlas, but Christian worship is not merely an exchange of thoughts or ideas. Clear and biblical thinking is one admirable end in education, but it is only one part of the whole picture. We are to love God with all of our heart, soul, mind, and strength. In other words we are to love God with everything that we are. Teachers are not merely concerned with putting ideas in students’ minds. Nor should they simply satisfy themselves with inculcating some kind of lens or framework with which to view the world. We are not merely minds. We are bodies that find identity in the unique communities that God has placed us in. Our hands, tongues, and knees are as much who we are as our thoughts. These too must be brought into submissive obedience to our King. When we are right before God, learning to bring everything in our lives to His table, clear thinking is one of the promised benefits. But Christian worship is never a mere cerebral exercise; rather it is presenting all that we are before God: mind, heart, hands, feet, and tongues. As Christians we must learn to glory in Creation: Art, music, dance, feasting, laughing, and drama should be integral parts of Christian education. For this reason, Atlas School encourages education that teaches to the whole man: Body, Mind, and Spirit.
