Showcasing Student Brilliance: Demo Day Recap

Showcasing Student Brilliance: Demo Day Recap

Last Week, Atlas School’s summer graduating class presented their capstone projects during Demo Day. This event allows students to showcase their final project to an audience of local employers, classmates, and loved ones.

Projects concepts varied from independent student ideas to collaborations with local companies. Our students demonstrated the full scope of their creativity and technical abilities, with projects including slot machines, aviation simulators, and more.

Dive in as we explore the projects of our soon to be graduates!

Whims

Whims is a group calendar website designed to mitigate indecisiveness within friend groups. Inspired by their own difficulties in coordinating activities, the team sought to create a solution that enables a smooth process of identifying, communicating, and confirming social plans.

Built primarily with the FERN stack — Firebase, Express, REACT, and Node — they developed an User Interface (UI) and design that is both technically sound and user friendly.

Paw Prints: A Way Home is an interactive website designed to help people easily find their lost pets. Energized by their own love for animals, this team aimed to build a comprehensive platform to connect pet owners and finders.

Their website was mostly built using SQL, React, Node.js, and Express, creating a friendly interface and effective pet recovery tools.

Cymstar Aviation Trainer

The Cymstar Aviation Trainer, created in partnership with Cymstar, is a 2D application that enhances flight training. The design provides pilots with hands-on training experience using aircraft instrumentation before they are in the cockpit.

Our team was provided with code from Cymstar, and tasked with creating a mini-aviation trainer to replace other current outdated training methods. This group utilized Python, SQLite, and Unity to ensure a realistic training environment within their simulation.

Checkpoint Therapy

Checkpoint Therapy is a mobile application that guides users away from meaningless scrolling, and towards more balanced device usage.

Developed with C#, SQLite, and Microsoft Visual Studio, this app tracks activities and provides motivational prompts throughout the user’s day. This group also took on .NET MAUI for the first time during this project, and successfully implemented it into their project.

Centsable

Censtable is a donation-focused platform designed to support charitable causes with small contributions, with emphasis on content creators and local businesses as core beneficiaries.

The application securely connects to your bank account, and donates the difference between each transactions and the nearest dollar to a cause of your choosing. These functions were developed through Tailwind, React, AWS, Plaid API, and Stripe.

Project Coinslot

Project Coinslot mixed hardware and software to create an engaging and affordable slot machine. This included a physical wheel, which was connected to a motion sensor, and displaying gamified feedback.

This group utilized Krita, GitHub, Godot, and MongoDB to implement code with their machine. They also developed familiarity with an Arduino chip, which has a wide range of practical everyday uses such vending machines and parking meters.
