In an effort to recognize those whose contributions make Holberton Tulsa a welcoming, uplifting community, we have created our Student of the Month Program. Students can nominate their fellow peers for going above and beyond in their coursework and support of their fellow classmates. This student upholds Holberton’s values and is determined to see those around them succeed.
Congratulations to June’s Student of the Month, Stratton Brooks! Here is a bit about Stratton’s experiences at Holberton.
Stratton: The money. I already had my passion career. I worked in advertising/branding and I was good at it. I loved doing communication audits to show companies and people who they really are. Their fear of the truth fueled me. However, the world doesn’t need more advertisers.
Stratton: I work with augmented and virtual reality. As long as you don’t break immersion, then what you learn is more retentive and how you feel is more visceral than any other media presently. What makes me happy is seeing someone’s first time in a VR headset or enhancing their reality with AR apps. They’re ecstatic, and If I had a career of making people smile then I’d feel fulfilled.
Stratton: My peers, I got grouped with a bunch of superstars. We’ve worked in retail, construction, and call centers, jobs that a few years ago would have been “essential,” yet these students are way more brilliant than myself and the people I graduated with from a local, expensive, private university. People just need a chance and support. If no one has ever told you that you can have a better life, then let me, because you can.
